Connect, reconnect or disconnect the bank feed (Akahu)

For New Zealand banks. Set your Business location first (Company → Company tab); the bank feed goes by it.

1. Side menu → Reconciliation → the bank line under the Autopilot card → Connect your bank. A sheet explains what is shared.

   

2. Before it lets you connect, BarkBus asks for a stronger password (12+ characters) and, on the phone app, the app lock (a PIN when the app opens). The sheet has a button for each.

3. Continue to Akahu, log in to your bank there and pick the account(s) your clients pay into. Akahu is the NZ service that connects banks to apps — BarkBus never sees your bank login and can't move money or make payments.

4. Back in BarkBus, the line says Bank feed connected. If it offers Bring me up to date, press it to fetch everything since the last payment on file.

What it reads: only money coming IN (deposits) — the last 12 months when you first connect, then new ones each day on their own. Balances, money going out and your email address are skipped and never stored. It keeps each account's bank, name and number so you can see which one is connected.

What the line says:

• Bank feed connected · last pulled … — working. Underneath, either "Up to date. New payments arrive on their own." or Bring me up to date, which fetches all of it from the last payment on file to today (a few months can take a minute; it is safe to press twice). Akahu only keeps 12 months — anything older than that, upload a statement for.
• Bank feed needs reconnecting / Your … account needs reconnecting — the bank stopped sharing (consents lapse, passwords change). Payments stop arriving until you press Reconnect your bank; statement uploads still work meanwhile. Admins also get a notification when this happens.
• Bank feed disconnected / No bank feed — payments only come in from statement uploads.

To stop it: Disconnect on the same line, or revoke BarkBus from your bank or at my.akahu.nz. Payments already in BarkBus stay. Change bank login swaps which bank login or accounts are connected. "How we handle your bank data" on the line opens the privacy page.
